Utica, NY– What began with an unexpected gift for one boy in the 1960s, has grown into a movement to bring bicycles to children in the Utica area. The Neighborhood Center is thrilled to announce the successful completion of another Creo’s Bikes for Tykes Giveaway. This giveaway was made possible through the generous funding of the Edwin J. Wadas Foundation, which stepped up to cover a lengthy wait list left after the inaugural giveaway in May. As a result of their support, 74 children in need received brand-new bicycles, helmets, and locks, ensuring they can enjoy the freedom and joy of riding safely.
Families gathered to witness the smiles and excitement as each child received their new bike, marking a memorable day for all involved. The Neighborhood Center, dedicated to supporting and uplifting the community, organized the giveaway with the goal of providing children with opportunities for outdoor activity, exercise, and fun.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Edwin J. Wadas Foundation for their support and generosity,” said Sandra Soroka, Executive Director of The Neighborhood Center. “For many of these children, this is their first opportunity to own a bicycle. If you think back to your childhood, most of us can recall hot summer days spent riding to parks and playing with friends. A bike is more than a toy; it’s a symbol of freedom, independence, and joy.”
The Neighborhood Center’s Creo’s Bikes for Tykes Giveaway is part of the organization’s broader efforts to eliminate social and racial inequities by providing essential resources and support to underserved communities. By distributing bicycles, helmets, and locks, The Neighborhood Center aims to promote physical health, safety, and overall well-being among the children they serve.
“We are proud to partner with The Neighborhood Center in this meaningful initiative,” said Victoria Cataldo, Executive Director of the Edwin J. Wadas Foundation. “Seeing the smiles on the faces of these children is truly rewarding, and we look forward to continuing our support for such impactful programs.”
As The Neighborhood Center looks to the future, it remains committed to its mission of fostering a community where every child can thrive.
