- M – F, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (with one evening per week).

The Behavioral Health Licensed Practical Nurse (BHLPN), is a member of the clinical team at the agency Behavioral Health Clinics. The BHLPN performs tasks and responsibilities including health teaching, health counseling, and provision of supportive and restorative care under the direction of a registered professional nurse, licensed physician, or other licensed health care provider legally authorized under this title.
SPECIFICE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Functions in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the behavioral healthcare clinic staff which allows for consultation, collaboration, or referral.
- Educates patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed treatments and/or medications including but not limited to individual or group diabetes education, smoking cessation education, and substance abuse education.
- Administers Injectable Psychotropic Medication.
- Provides Health Monitoring to clients in the form of the continued measuring of specific health indicators associated with increased risk of medical illness and early death, [blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), substance use, activity/exercise level, and smoking status].
- Assists Psychiatrists and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners in establishing and reviewing Clinical Psychopharmacology Treatment Plans for Medication Treatment Only clients.
- Completes required training and subsequent provision of “Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment” (SBIRT); SBIRT is an evidence-based intervention designed to modify the consumption/use patterns of at-risk substance users, and identify individuals who need more extensive, specialized treatment.
- Completes required training as a “Trained Overdose Responder (TOR)” as well as an “Approved Overdose Trainer (AOT)” as part of the Clinic “Overdose Prevention Program”.
- Provides opioid overdose training to staff, clients, and the community, and designated to selectively furnish naloxone.
- Discusses cases with physician and other clinical professionals to prepare comprehensive patient behavioral healthcare plan.
- Facilitates evaluation of records by physician(s), peers, and quality and standards according to protocols, and receives and implements constructive directives.
- Maintains self in a professional manner at all times and adheres to the policies and procedures of the agency.
- Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time, and prepared towork
- Employees are expected to be available to work occasional evenings based on the needs of the program
- Performs additional tasks as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated knowledge in behavioral healthcare procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in health counseling and advising.
- Strong experience and proven skill in positive interpersonal relations.
- Demonstrated experience in decision-making and utilization of problem solving skills.
- Current licensure in New York State as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) required and experience in behavioral healthcare procedures preferred.
