UTICA ,NY…Make a difference in someone's life and the life of the community by volunteering to be an Ally for The Neighborhood Center's Circles program.
Circles helps motivated, low income individuals and families reach greater economic stability by helping them identify their own resources and goals, learn how to take social action in their communities and build beneficial relationships with others. This evidence-based approach to fighting poverty at the individual and community levels significantly decrease dependence on welfare while increasing personal assets and income during the first 18 months of participation.
Allies join a circle of supportive friendship with other Allies and a low income individual or family working on goals to move out of poverty. An Ally attends at least two meetings a month for a family-style dinner, fellowship and chance to connect with people from other Circle groups.
To become an Ally, persons attend two, two hour-training sessions, participate in a screening interview and commit to at least five hours of participation a month for a minimum of 18 months.
