Neighborhood Center Goes Green for Mental Health Awareness

Utica, NY (May 2024) — In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, employees of The Neighborhood Center from across seven counties proudly participated in the “Be Seen in Green” campaign today. This initiative aimed to raise awareness and promote understanding of mental health issues.

The Neighborhood Center’s behavioral health branch has experienced significant growth over the past decade. This expansion has allowed the agency to provide cutting-edge programs and services that address the diverse mental health needs of our communities. Key developments include:

  • Creation of three Crisis Response Teams, working in partnership with the Utica Police Department, the Village of Herkimer Police Department, and the Oneida Sheriff’s Department, which provide immediate assistance during mental health crises, ensuring timely and appropriate intervention.
  • The establishment of satellite clinics in rural areas has made mental health services more accessible to those in remote locations.
  • Home-based therapy programs that bring vital mental health support directly to individuals and families in their homes, fostering a supportive and healing environment.

“The exponential growth of our behavioral health services is a testament to our commitment to addressing mental health needs in our community,” said Sandra Soroka, Executive Director of The Neighborhood Center. “Our participation in the ‘Be Seen in Green’ campaign highlights the importance of mental health awareness and our dedication to supporting those affected by mental health issues.”

The “Be Seen in Green” campaign provided an opportunity for employees to show solidarity and support for mental health awareness. By wearing green, they helped spark conversations and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
